A home’s air conditioning system is one of its most important appliances and Prestige Plumbing Services provide professional repair and maintenance to all types of central air systems. Not only does central air keep the home cool and comfortable during the dog days of summer, but also acts as a dehumidifier. Air conditioning systems also perform as an air filter that keeps dust and allergens out of the interior environment. The evaporator coil is one of the most critical parts of an air conditioning unit.
How It Works
Before refrigerant in a central air unit reaches the evaporator coil which is located in the inside portion of an air conditioning system, it is compressed and turned from a gas state to an extremely cold liquid state in the compressor which is in the outside unit. The liquid refrigerant then passes into the evaporator coil while being pushed by the unit’s blower. The cool air that moves over the cold liquid refrigerant is blown throughout the home until it moves the temperature down on the thermostat to its selected setting.
The evaporator works by removing warmth from the air that flows over its coils as the liquid refrigerant converts back to a gas and the gas moves back into the condenser repeating the cooling cycle. The efficiency of an evaporator coil is dependent on one of its most important components, the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV), which regulates the volume of refrigerant that passes through the coil. Different evaporator coil models have varying sizes of TXV holes in place. The most efficient equipment has the ability to gauge both the temperature and the flow of refrigerant allowing more precise regulation of coolant and preventing coil freezing.
Common Evaporator Coil Issues
Many homeowners encounter problems with air conditioning that stem from malfunction of the evaporator coil. Many situations arise in the coil that necessitate professional maintenance or repair.
Air that comes into the home’s cooling system often brings in dirt and dust. An accumulation of particles can cause the central air unit to become inefficient or completely stop.
Too much moisture that does not drain properly can cause evaporator coil malfunction. Not only does the excess moisture collect dust and dirt, but it can also begin to harbor health hazards such as bacteria and mold.
Low levels of refrigerant or inefficient air flow over the coil can cause it to freeze. Poor air flow is often caused by an occlusion in the intake of air caused by a clogged filter or poorly working fan.
Air conditioning problems caused by trouble with the evaporator coil can be quickly resolved by a professional company like Prestige Plumbing Services. Emergency repair is available 24 hours a day and is just a phone call away at 630-801-8600.
